Whales and Dolphins and Climate Change

So then I started wondering – what about cetaceans?  Heck, wouldn’t a whale, dolphin, or porpoise love climate change?  More water, warmer water, more places to forage.  Turns out, that’s not the case….

According to the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society:  “Changes in sea temperature, freshening of seawater, sea level rise, loss of icy polar habitats and the decline of food sources are just some of the many threats posed by climate change.”

For the National Marine Life Center and our partners at the International Fund for Animal Welfare’s Marine Mammal Rescue Program, unfortunately, that sounds like more strandings….

  1. Thanks for the information, Tamara! I checked out the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation website and they are doing some amazing work to promote sustainable and responsible fishing and to reduce the human impact on the ocean environment. Keep up the good work! As you said, we’re all in this together!

  2. Working together…AFTCO is the licensee for Guy Harvey’s sportwear and a portion of these sales goes to marine & ocean research. Over $ 100,000 last year was donated to the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation to support the research.

  3. I like your website and I applaud your support for saving the whales and dolphins. In a similar vein, I believe that public interest and concern for these magnificent beings can be heightened by blending scientific fact with speculative fiction, as I have done in my novel, The Tempest’s Roar. In Hollywood speak it is ‘Lord of the Rings’ meets ‘Finding Nemo’. Please visit my website http://www.rarclouston.com or read my blog http://whaleanddolphintalk.blogspot.com/

  4. Wouldn’t that be a wonderful gift!
