Seal Diamond Release!
We are planning a seal release for Thursday, March 30, 2017 at 5:30PM for our newest harp seal, Seal Diamond!
He will be released a Scusset Beach in Sandwich, MA and the public is invited to come and watch! Diamond is a yearling seal who was rescued by the Seacoast Science Center in Seabrook, NH and brought to the NMLC on February 19, 2017. He gets his name from singer/songwriter Neil Diamond, which fits him well because he is very vocal in the hospital. He came to us extremely dehydrated and malnourished with parasites in his system and infected bite wounds. His treatments consisted of fluid therapy, antibiotics, and de-worming medicine. Thanks to our animal care team, his health quickly improved and he was eating fish on his own within a week. Weighing in at 100.8lbs, Diamond is our largest seal. He is a very graceful swimmer in the pool and we are excited that after a little more than a month in rehabilitation, he has been cleared for release and will return to the ocean! We hope you will join us in wishing Seal Diamond farewell at this exciting public occasion!
