Meet Our Fall Interns!

Hi I’m Michaela W.! I’m from Raynham, MA and I am a recent graduate from the University of Rhode Island where I received a degree in Marine Biology. I am interning at NMLC because I am passionate about helping marine wildlife. In my free time, I love to go to the beach and hang out with my puppy.

Hi the name is Alyse  B. and I love the ocean. The sea has always held a special space in my heart, especially growing up around the Cape. However, as I grew I soon realized the ocean needs more attention than sun bathers can provide. The sea is drowning in plastic. I am currently at Cape Cod community college studying to be an environmental conservationist because the sea creatures shouldn’t have to clean up after the humans. I spend a lot of time collecting sea glass and grabbing trash as I walk on the shore. I recently rescued a dog who was terrified of the ocean waves. Since the beach is such a treat it is no surprise that it took only a few visits for him to be eager to get out of the car and run on the sandy surface. This brought me to become an intern at NMLC, where seals and turtles receive a second chance at life.

My name is Coral K. and I am from Saginaw Michigan. I attended Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan and have recently graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in biology. My hobbies include spending time outside, painting, and playing my ukulele. While searching for internships I came across National Marine Life Center which really stood out to me because of its educational outreach programs and many passionate volunteers and staff. I am so happy to be a part of it and am really looking forward to gaining hands on experience with our animals, as well as helping in any way I can!

My name is Andrea S. and I recently moved from the greater Boston area to a home just across the street from Pleasant Bay in Orleans, MA. I am currently changing careers and am hoping to combine my professional experience as a photographer with my lifelong passion for the marine sciences and animal welfare. I volunteered at Wild Care Cape Cod in Eastham and NMLC before joining the Center’s internship program. Some of the highlights of my time at NMLC so far have been caring for days old harbor seal pups this past spring and photographing the various patients and animal releases at NMLC. In my spare time I can be found wandering the beaches of the outer Cape with my two golden retrievers and my camera.

My name is Caitlin W. and I am from Falmouth, MA. I study at the University of Rochester where I am majoring in Cell and Developmental Biology with a Music minor. My interests include wildlife rehab, marine biology, and special education, and I have been able to pursue all three of these interests as an Animal Care and Education intern! My hobbies include napping, eating, drinking coffee, and playing with puppies.

My name is Megan R. I am a co-op student from Northeastern University where I major in Marine Biology and minor in Environmental Studies. I am originally from Nashua, New Hampshire, but grew up visiting Cape Cod frequently. I chose NMLC for my co-op, because I wanted to work in animal care, but also stay true to my passion, the ocean. I love NMLC and knowing that I am helping individual seals and turtles, as well as the populations in the surrounding areas gets me out of bed daily. When I am not at NMLC, I am most likely SCUBA diving or cooking sweet potatoes!

Hi! I’m Joanna D., and I am a co-op at NMLC. I go to Northeastern University in Boston, where I am a senior majoring in Environmental Science and minoring in Biology. I’m originally from Morehead City, North Carolina, so I’m enjoying being back near the beach this semester! I chose to do my co-op at NMLC because of how much I enjoyed my past intern experience with sea turtles and marine mammals at the NC Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores. I love playing guitar, singing, scuba diving, boating, swimming, travelling, going to concerts…basically anything that has to do with music, the water, or exploring new places!
