A Salty-Sweet Farewell
Where do I begin? I am a full-time student at Bridgewater State University where I major in business management with a concentration in marketing and minor in public relations. About four months ago, I contacted Kathy regarding a public relations practicum at the National Marine Life Center for a course I was enrolled in at BSU. The course required that the class work with a nonprofit organization on their public relations efforts. I have lived in Onset, MA for almost 20 years and always wondered just what the NMLC was all about.
My first thought was, “How am I going to manage 6 classes, a 40-hour work week, and an internship?” Although, I only visited the center once a week, my meetings with Kathy, Kate, and Adele became the highlight of my busy schedule. Not only did I get the opportunity to write news releases, design event flyers, and post weekly blogs I learned more about the NMLC, their purpose, and the animals they care for than I could have hoped for. Clearly, this organization is built on a foundation of hope and compassion for the conservation and rehabilitation of marine animal life.
It has been a memorable experience working with Kathy and the National Marine Life Center. One I will cherish and talk about for years to come. It’s astonishing how much you can learn in such a short amount of time from a small group of people. As happy as I am to be one semester closer to graduating, I will truly miss working with the NMLC. I couldn’t have asked for a better group of people to work with.
Thank you for the amazing opportunity and I look forward to volunteering at the NMLC in the future. I can’t be this busy forever. With that said, I will be back 😉
