Get Your Masquerade On!

The day we have all been waiting for is soon to arrive…the 2015 Mermaid Ball is next Friday! For the past three months, I’ve been dreaming about mermaids, glittery centerpieces, and beautiful gowns and I cannot wait to see how it all turns out.  This year’s Mermaid Ball is unlike any other because it is themed as an underwater masquerade ball. Recently my hands have been covered in glue and sparkles as intern Casey and I have been decorating beautiful masks to sell at the event. With two boxes full of sparkles, sequins, sea glass, and paint, the mask designs are endless. We have created ones with ocean themes, glamorous ones for the divas, and some funky ones for those who have a wild side. We’ll be selling our handmade masks at check-in for $10 and$20, so be sure to get there early to buy your favorite one. Guests are also lucky enough to have the opportunity to get their faces painted! A talented artist will be at check-in and she can turn you into an elegant mermaid or merman. For $5 you can get a small face paint design and for $10 you can get a full-face design. Between the masks and face painting, guests can rock the masquerade and mermaid look, while contributing to our fundraising goals.

You have 8 more days before the big event, so start adding the finishing touches to those Mermaid Ball costumes! The dance floor is sure to be filled with mermaids, mermen, pirates, and the occasional underwater creature. In previous years we’ve even had an octopus show off her best dance moves! Be sure to arrive in style because at the end of the night, we’ll announce winners for best dressed! There will be prizes for 1st place and 2nd place Best Costume and 1st place and 2nd place Best Mask. Until then, sew on those flippers, glue on those shells, and shine your dancing shoes. The 2015 Mermaid Ball is going to arrive in a splash!
