Middle and High School Educators: Join us for Summer Professional Development!

Sustainability. What’s the buzz all about? Learn about human threats to Cape Cod and Southeastern Massachusetts’ coastal environment and animals. Discuss real world practical solutions that make a difference to ocean sustainability such as shellfish aquaculture, which improves water quality, and sustainable farming techniques that preserve soil and water. Bring these ideas into your classroom with hands-on, inquiry-based STEM activities.

Explore the plants and animals in the coastal habitats of Cape Cod. Discover the role of marine mammals and sea turtles in the Massachusetts marine ecosystem. Visit a local marina and learn about innovative sustainability practices. Dig into sustainability farming methods and their environmental impact. Investigate the ecological and economic benefits of oyster farming. Engage with scientists at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute and discover new resources for your students.

Dates: July 9-13 (8:30 am-3:30 pm); Half Day Introductory Session June 9 (8:30 am-12:30 pm); Half Day Fall Call-back November 3 (8:30 am-12:30 pm)
Registration Cost: $400/participant ($375/participant if attending in team of 2 teachers from your school district; $350/participant if attending in team of 3+ teachers from your school district)
Optional Graduate Credit and PDPs: Framingham State University ($225; 3 graduate credits, 67.5 PDPs). 40 PDPs available without graduate credit.
Housing at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy is available for this region.
