Teachers’ Workshop: Inquiring Minds Want to Know – How to Use Marine Science and Technology in the Classroom
Grades 3-8 Educators: Join us for summer professional development!
Join the Southeast region for the summer of 2018 and dive into inquiry based learning through this exciting course. During our on-site week July 16th – July 20th you will visit the Lloyd Center for the Environment, Battleship Cove, the National Marine Life Center and the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth School for Marine Science and Technology lab. This course will highlight how technology and engineering have advanced our understanding of marine science. We will design floats to meet buoyancy criteria, review marine organisms’ adaptations, and engineer prosthetics for ocean animals. At the shoreline we will explore tools that are used to determine water quality and practice water-sampling techniques. Discover how physical science concepts like waves can be brought to life through marine mammals. Shore up your background knowledge and explore a variety of tools, methods, and techniques to make marine science and technology more accessible to students. Through investigations, hands-on activities and group discussions we will explore ways to excite and educate your students about all areas of science!
